Soothing Hands-On Body Treatment Regina M. Downey, DVM, CVTP
Tui Na is a deep tissue massage therapy that has been used in China for more than 2,000 years. It draws it's basis of application and actions in Chinese medical theory.
Quite simply, Tui Na can be thought of as a combination of acupressure, massage and chiropractic and/or manipulative orthopedic therapy.
Tui Na is used to 'open' the channels of blood flow to promote circulation of Qi, soothe joints, strengthen the immune system to promote normal function of organs, treat acute and chronic musculoskeletal abnormalities as well as a preventative to promote continued good health. Tui Na is also used in conjunction with other treatments, i.e. acupuncture and herbal treatments, to enhance its effectiveness.
It is safe and non-invasive and requires the use of no needles so it can be administered to small and large animals. Dr. Downey received intensive, specialized training and certification in this method.
